Alexander Girard

Alexander Girard was a designer and architect who represented American design in the mid-20th century. Along with Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson, he helped build the golden age of mid-century design. His work is characterized by his sense of color and deep understanding of diverse cultures.

His activities after becoming the Design Director of Herman Miller's textile division in 1952, in particular, brought him renown. At that time, most office fabrics were practical and lacking in color, but Girard incorporated primary colors, simple geometric patterns, and an essence of humor, bringing joy and generosity to design.

His vibrant colors and bold patterns are characterized by the use of vivid primary colors and strong geometric or abstract patterns, which were rarely seen in the design world until then.
